Writer's Retreat 2025 In-Person
Come re-energize your creative writing project(s)! Join the Marian E. Wright Writing Center, Rough Draft Cafe Community Writing Center, UM-Flint Department of Language and Communication, Frances Willson Thompson Library, and Qua Literary and Fine Arts Magazine for a day-long writer's retreat. This retreat is open to UM-Flint and community members 18 and over. Whether you come to write, or just to chat about writing with people who think it's as terrible/wonderful/transformational as you do, join us! Writers of all genres are welcome.
When: Saturday, April 5th from 9:00-4:30
Where: Marian E. Wright Writing Center, on the 3rd floor of the Thompson Library
Registration Fee: a new or used book that you love and want to share for a book exchange
Deadline to register: Friday, March 28th
Registration: capped at 30 attendees
The day's agenda:
- 9:00-9:25: Registration and refreshments
- 9:25-9:30: Welcome
- 9:30-11:00: Taking the Next Step: Intro to Literary Publishing workshop
- 11:00-12:30: Independent writing time (A chat and snack room will be available for those who wish to take a break or talk about writing).
- 12:30-2:00: Lunch is not provided, but you are welcome to bring your own, or pair up and go to the Farmer's Market for food and conversation.
- 2:00-2:30: Ideas exchange and check-in
- 2:30-4:15: Independent writing time
- 4:15-4:30: Wrap-up
Important Notes: There may be limited computer access available for non-University attendees, so please bring a lap-top or notebook for independent writing.
