2024 IRIS UMETRICS Data Release: Highlights, Access, Census Data Linkage, and Research Applications Online

Natsuko Nicholls and Elissa Irhamy will give an overview of the dataset and provide information on access. Joseph Staudt, economist from the U.S. Census Bureau, will outline the variety of Census data to which the IRIS UMETRICS dataset can be linked and will share how he and a colleague used UMETRICS data to study how delays in NIH grant funding affect the career outcomes of research personnel.

About the IRIS UMETRICS Research Dataset

The IRIS UMETRICS research dataset (accessed through a virtual data enclave) is useful for analyzing the social and economic effects of research investments, the scientific production function, the career outcomes and earnings of doctoral students and trainees, questions pertaining to science and engineering workforce and the STEM pipeline among many other possible topics.

This rich dataset has been utilized by researchers in various fields, including higher education, economics, and sociology, to gain insights into research funding, collaboration, and impact.
